Nagpur: Demonstrating their commitment to road safety, the Nagpur Traffic Police issued 5,878 challans worth ₹11.49 lakh on Tuesday, December 3. The operation, led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak, marked one of the department’s most successful drives in recent times.
In a recent move to enhance safety, the Nagpur Traffic Police implemented helmet rules for pillion riders, imposing a ₹1,000 fine for non-compliance. While the initiative has drawn criticism from some citizens, officials emphasized its importance for public safety. They assured the public that awareness campaigns would precede the stricter enforcement of penalties for pillion riders without helmets.
As part of a special campaign across all traffic zones, the department targeted violators and reckless drivers, enforcing provisions of the Motor Vehicles Act with strict measures.
“The department urges all citizens to follow traffic rules by wearing helmets while riding two-wheelers, using seat belts in four-wheelers, avoiding triple-seat riding, adhering to traffic signals, and refraining from driving on the wrong side of the road,” DCP Chandak appealed.
