Nagpur: Gadchiroli, Chandrapur and Nagpur districts in Maharashtra experienced mild tremors on Wednesday morning following a 5.3 magnitude earthquake that struck Mulugu in neighboring Telangana, officials confirmed.

The earthquake, recorded at 7:27 am by the National Center for Seismology, caused light shocks in Nagpur, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD) and reports from local residents. Similar tremors were felt in Gadchiroli, which shares proximity to Telangana, as stated by the district information office.

In Chandrapur, tremors were reported in parts of the city, Ballarpur, and tehsils bordering Telangana. Chandrapur Collector Vinay Gowda urged residents to remain calm and advised them to move to open spaces if further shocks are experienced.

IMD officials noted that light tremors are typically felt 200 to 300 km from the earthquake’s epicenter. While no damage was reported in Nagpur or the neighboring districts, authorities remain on alert to ensure public safety.
