Nagpur: In a major crackdown on modified silencers, the Nagpur Traffic Police conducted a special drive from January 5 to January 9, 2025, addressing complaints of excessive noise caused by these modifications. The loud noise created by modified silencers has been a persistent issue, causing significant discomfort to residents, especially senior citizens.
The city-wide campaign led to the seizure of 440 two-wheelers equipped with modified silencers. Legal action was initiated under Sections 190(2) and 198 of the Motor Vehicles Act. As part of the operation, the silencers were removed, replaced with original ones, and rendered unusable. To highlight the department’s efforts, a special drive to destroy these silencers was organized at Samvidhan Square on Thursday, January 9.
The initiative, hailed as the largest action of its kind by the Nagpur Traffic Police, was conducted under the leadership of DCP (Traffic) Archit Chandak. Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP Nisar Tamboli, and other senior officials were present during the silencer destruction event.
The drive also resulted in ₹3,97,050 being collected in fines across 10 traffic zones. In the MIDC zone, 42 vehicles were penalized, collecting ₹50,350 in fines, while the Sonegaon zone recorded 40 cases, collecting ₹44,450.
