Nagpur Records 11 Road Accident Fatalities in First Nine Days of 2025

Nagpur: The new year has begun on a grim note for Nagpur, with 11 lives lost in road accidents during the first nine days of 2025. The alarming trend follows a deadly 2024, which recorded 345 fatalities in 327 road mishaps, marking the highest toll in five years.


The spate of accidents highlights the persistent issue of road safety in the city. On January 8 alone, four people, including a two-year-old girl, lost their lives in separate incidents.


January 8 Tragedies:


In Suradevi, under the jurisdiction of Koradi police, a two-year-old girl, Sadhana Uikey, was struck by a reversing Creta car. The victim was the daughter of Arun and his wife, laborers at a local brick kiln.


On the same day, a truck (MH/40/BL/4301) fatally hit two relatives on a two-wheeler at Chikhli flyover. The victims, Gulab Tukaram Bhajankar (53) and Mahadev Vithoba Sahare (45), were returning home from work.


Other Recent Fatalities:


January 6: An elderly security guard died in a collision with a truck at Ajni Square under Dhantoli police jurisdiction.

January 3: A crane hit a moped carrying two men on Kamptee-Nagpur Road near Bhatia Lawn. The crash killed a 54-year-old man and left his friend critically injured.

January 3: In a separate incident, 58-year-old Vijay Babulal Malviya was struck by an Alto car near his home in Mahadula, Koradi. He succumbed to his injuries on January 8.


Additional Incidents:


One fatality each was reported on January 2, 4, and 5 under MIDC, Hingna, and Jaripatka police jurisdictions, respectively.


New Year’s Day Tragedy:


On January 1, two friends lost their lives, and a third was critically injured in a late-night crash on Hingna-Gumgaon Road. A speeding truck collided with their motorcycle around 11 p.m. under Hingna police jurisdiction.


Authorities Struggle to Curb Fatalities:


The rising number of road accidents in Nagpur has raised concerns among authorities, who are now under pressure to implement effective road safety measures. The city’s traffic conditions and reckless driving remain critical issues that demand immediate attention to prevent further loss of life.
