Nagpur: In a proactive measure to ensure public safety during the upcoming Makar Sankranti festivities, Nagpur Traffic Police launched an awareness drive to protect motorists from the deadly risks posed by nylon manja.

Traffic police personnel were seen educating riders on the use of a specially designed steel wire mechanism that can prevent accidents caused by nylon manja. This mechanism, which stretches between the two handles of a two-wheeler, acts as a shield by tangling the manja onto itself, thereby preventing it from coming into contact with the rider’s neck.

The demonstration of this life-saving mechanism was conducted at key locations in the city, where police officials also urged citizens to adhere to traffic rules for overall road safety.

With a noticeable rise in incidents of nylon manja causing severe injuries and fatalities among motorists, the initiative has been widely recognized as timely and necessary. The sharp nylon strings, often used for flying kites during the festival, have been known to cut through the necks of riders, leading to tragic accidents.

Nagpur Traffic Police’s efforts aim to ensure that the festive spirit of Makar Sankranti remains unharmed by preventable mishaps on city roads. Citizens are encouraged to adopt this safety mechanism and report any illegal sale or use of nylon manja.
