Nagpur: As Nagpurians celebrated Makar Sankranti on Tuesday, January 14, the Zone 3 Police, under the leadership of Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Mahak Swami, took proactive measures to address the dangers of nylon manja. Safety wires were installed on Shantinagar flyover to protect bikers from the potentially fatal kite strings.

Nylon manja, known for its sharpness and durability, poses a significant threat to two-wheeler riders during the kite-flying festival. To combat this hazard, the safety wires stretched across the flyover act as protective barriers, reducing the risk of injuries to commuters.

Earlier, on Monday, January 13, the Nagpur Traffic Police, led by DCP Archit Chandak, launched a citywide initiative to install safety arches on two-wheelers. These specially designed steel wire devices, which stretch between the handlebars, prevent nylon manja from coming into contact with the rider’s neck. Traffic police personnel demonstrated the installation process at prominent locations and provided guidance to motorists, ensuring widespread adoption of this life-saving mechanism.

Both initiatives reflect the police’s commitment to ensuring public safety during the vibrant celebrations of Makar Sankranti. By addressing the hazards of nylon manja, the authorities have not only mitigated risks but also reinforced a safe environment for Nagpurians to enjoy the festival.
