Nagpur: The Ninth Armed Forces Veteran’s Day was commemorated with reverence and enthusiasm at Headquarters Maintenance Command, Vayusena Nagar, Nagpur here, on Tuesday, January 14. The event paid tribute to the selfless service and sacrifices of India’s veterans, bringing together retired and serving personnel, their families, and dignitaries in a heartfelt celebration.
The significance of Armed Forces Veteran’s Day dates back to January 14, 1953, when Field Marshal K.M. Cariappa, the first Indian Commander-in-Chief of the Indian Army, retired from service. Since its inception in 2016, this day has become a symbol of gratitude and respect for the nation’s defenders.
This year’s event was graced by the presence of Hon’ble Union Minister of Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, who presided as the Chief Guest, along with Air Marshal Vijay Kumar Garg, Air Officer Commanding-in-Chief, Maintenance Command. The program began with a wreath-laying ceremony, where Shri Gadkari, veterans, and serving personnel paid homage to the fallen heroes who made the ultimate sacrifice for the nation.
The veterans were honored with heartfelt tributes for their courage, commitment, and legacy. Eminent speakers from the Directorate of Air Veterans, Zila Sainik Board Nagpur, and nationalized banks delivered lectures aimed at addressing the welfare and financial well-being of veterans, underscoring the importance of their continued support.
