Nagpur: In a significant crackdown on illegal cattle transport, Pardi Police apprehended a driver for inhumanely transporting 16 cattle for slaughter. The incident occurred early on January 14, 2025, when the police intercepted an Eicher Tempo (MH 40 CD 5902) near Sunny Dhaba on the Bhandara-Hyderabad Highway Bypass.
Upon inspection, police discovered 16 cattle tightly bound inside the vehicle without food or water, causing severe distress. The accused, identified as Mohammed Jameer Sheikh (40) of Madan Chowk, Machchipul, Kamptee, was arrested on the spot.
The police seized the vehicle and cattle, estimating the total value at ₹23,20,000 (₹3,20,000 for the cattle and ₹20,00,000 for the vehicle). The rescued cattle have been handed over to the Gaurakshan Sanstha in Dhantoli for care.
A case has been filed under Sections 5(b), 9 of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1995, Section 11(1)(d) of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960, and Sections 3/180 and 5/181 of the Motor Vehicle Act.
