Nagpur: A woman police constable (WPC) from the Nagpur Police Department sustained injuries caused by nylon manja while on her way to report for duty on Makar Sankranti, Tuesday, January 14.

According to sources, the constable Sheetal Khedkar, attached to Sitabuldi Police Station, was traveling to her post when the banned kite string, notorious for its sharpness and durability, inflicted cuts on her nose. She received immediate medical attention and is currently recovering.

Nylon manja has been a recurring safety concern during the kite-flying festival, prompting the Nagpur Police to enforce strict measures, including the installation of safety wires on flyovers and promoting the use of safety arches on two-wheelers.

The police have reiterated their commitment to ensuring public safety during Makar Sankranti and have appealed to citizens to avoid using nylon manja, which has been banned due to its hazardous nature.
