Following a complaint from the victim’s family, New Kamptee police registered a case under Section 306 of the IPC. Rajput was apprehended on April 23, 2022, at 9:26 PM.

The case was investigated by then-Police Inspector Kamalakar Gaddime, who filed the chargesheet in court. Special Public Prosecutor Adv. Gaulkar represented the prosecution, while Adv. Rizwan Ali defended the accused. Court liaison officer Police Constable Suresh Barsagade assisted in the proceedings.

After evaluating the evidence and witness testimonies, the court found Rajput guilty and pronounced the five-year jail sentence along with the fine.
