Nagpur: Heavy unseasonal rains accompanied by strong winds in the early hours of Wednesday, April 2, caused significant disruptions to the power distribution system in Nagpur and its surrounding areas. However, Mahavitaran employees swiftly initiated repair work, restoring electricity in most areas within a few hours.

The rainfall, which began around 1:30 AM, led to widespread power outages in several localities, including Parvati Nagar, Rameshwari, Abhay Nagar, Besa, Manewada, Rambagh, Mahal, Sakkardara, New Subhedar, Janki Nagar, Bhagwan Nagar, Umred Road, Sutgirni, Wathoda, Bagadganj, Shri Krishna Nagar, Wadi, Trimurti Nagar, Chhatrapati Nagar, Somalwada, and Manish Nagar.

Several transformers were damaged, trees and branches fell on power lines, and electric poles were bent or broken, causing major supply disruptions. In Wadi, multiple electrical discs were damaged, and power lines snapped in several places.

The Mahal division of Mahavitaran was the worst affected. Despite the extensive damage, the power utility’s rapid response teams managed to restore electricity in most areas by early morning.

Since Wednesday was a scheduled maintenance day, pre-planned repair and servicing work also helped stabilize the power supply in affected areas. Restoration efforts are still ongoing in some localities to ensure full recovery.
