Nagpur: Maharashtra State Minority Commission Chairman (Minister of State rank) Pyare Khan has stated that the amendment being introduced by the Central Government regarding the Waqf Act is in the interest of the Muslim community and a significant step towards securing the rights of poor and marginalized Muslims. He emphasized that the bill has been introduced to ensure that underprivileged and backward Muslims receive their rightful benefits.

On Wednesday, Union Minister for Minority Affairs Kiren Rijiju introduced the Waqf Amendment Bill in Lok Sabha, aiming to bring Waqf Board properties under a legal framework. Following its introduction, reactions from across the country have surfaced. Pyare Khan welcomed the bill, calling it a progressive step for the Muslim community.

Khan highlighted that the Waqf Board currently owns around 8.72 lakh properties across India. If these properties are properly allocated for Muslim welfare, they will significantly benefit poor Muslims and secure their rights. He also mentioned that, as a representative of Maharashtra’s minority community, he has received numerous complaints regarding operational issues in the Waqf Board. Due to these issues, Muslims are unable to properly utilize the land donated for their welfare, making this amendment a necessary and timely step.

Clarifying concerns, Khan stated that the Waqf Amendment Bill does not interfere with religious matters. He questioned the critics, asking, “Have they ever protested against those who misuse Waqf Board positions?” He urged the Muslim community to support the bill, emphasizing that it serves their best interests.
