Nagpur: In a crucial move, Revenue Minister and Nagpur District Guardian Minister, Chandra Shekhar Bawankule, has directed the concerned authorities to repair the non-functional CCTV cameras in Nagpur city within the next 15 days and transfer them to the state government. Additionally, a budget of ₹10 crore will be allocated for the maintenance and repairs of these cameras.

A meeting was convened by Minister Bawankule at his ministry office to review the status of CCTV cameras in Nagpur city on Wednesday, February 5. The city had previously installed approximately 3,600 cameras under a project with L&T. However, around 2,000 of these cameras are currently non-functional, with L&T explaining that 1,100 cameras are down due to ongoing maintenance work.

IT Team to Inspect Repaired Cameras

Minister Bawankule further instructed the police commissioner of Nagpur, Ravindra Kumar Singal, who attended the meeting via video conference, to form a specialized IT team to inspect the repaired cameras and ensure they are functioning properly.

CCTV Cameras Critical for Crime Investigation

Minister Bawankule emphasized that the CCTV cameras in Nagpur play a crucial role in investigating crimes such as theft, murder, robbery, and accidents. He directed L&T officials to ensure the cameras are repaired and operational within the next 15 days. Moreover, the minister provided detailed instructions to the relevant department officials on how to proceed after the repairs are completed.

The meeting was attended by Information Technology Minister Ashish Shelar, Principal Secretary of the IT Department Parag Jain Nainutia, Nagpur Municipal Commissioner Dr. Abhijit Chaudhary, Additional Commissioner of Nagpur Municipal Corporation and CEO of Nagpur Smart City Project Anchal Goyal, and other officials.
