Nagpur: In a significant move to enhance law enforcement and public safety, the Maharashtra government has approved the establishment of the new Garoba Maidan Police Station under the Nagpur City Police Commissionerate here on Wednesday, February 5. The decision was made due to the rapid urbanization and population growth in the area, which has resulted in increased crime rates and logistical challenges for the existing police stations in Nandanvan and Lakadganj.

According to government officials, the proposed Garoba Maidan Police Station will serve a population of approximately 1.5 lakh residents. The division of jurisdiction between the Nandanvan and Lakadganj police stations was deemed necessary due to the growing distance (over 4 km) to reach certain crime scenes, causing delays in response and difficulties in curbing crime effectively.

The Maharashtra Police Director General had submitted the proposal for the creation of the new police station from the existing workforce. The state government has now granted approval along with a non-recurring budget allocation of Rs 65.16 lakh. The expenditure will be met from the approved grant.

Additionally, the Director General of Police has been directed to submit a jurisdiction demarcation proposal for the new police station to the government.

The government resolution is available on the official Maharashtra government website (www.maharashtra.gov.in) with reference code 202502051504254429. The order has been digitally signed and issued accordingly.
