Nagpur: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has declared the Class 12 (HSC) examination results for 2026, with the overall state pass percentage standing at 89.79%, reflecting a drop from last year’s 91.88%. While the state performance remains strong, Nagpur division recorded a middling outcome, ranking 8th among all divisions.
As per the official divisional data, Nagpur registered 1,53,356 students, of whom 1,52,230 appeared for the examination. A total of 1,34,888 students passed, taking the division’s pass percentage to 88.67%. This placed Nagpur at the 8th position statewide, ahead of only Latur.
The Konkan division emerged as the top-performing region with a pass percentage of 94.14%, while the Latur division ranked last at 84.14%. Other divisions such as Pune, Kolhapur, and Mumbai performed better than Nagpur, pushing it lower in the rankings despite a relatively solid score.
Statewide, out of 14,44,713 registered candidates, 14,33,058 students appeared for the exams, and 12,86,843 cleared them successfully.
Girls continued their dominance in academic performance, achieving a pass percentage of 93.15%, significantly higher than boys at 86.80%, creating a gap of 6.35 percentage points.
Stream-wise, Science students led with a remarkable 96.44% pass rate, followed by Commerce at 87.03%. Vocational courses recorded 82.64%, while Arts lagged behind at 78.02%. Additionally, 26 out of 153 subjects reported a 100% pass rate, indicating exceptional performance in select areas. The ITI stream registered an overall pass percentage of 81.78%.
Despite maintaining a pass percentage close to the state average, Nagpur’s 8th rank raises concerns over its relative performance compared to other divisions. Education experts suggest a deeper review of district-wise results and institutional performance to identify gaps and improve outcomes in the coming academic year.
