Nagpur: During his official visit to Nagpur, Vivek Tyagi, Additional Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC) Maharashtra Directorate, called on Nitin Gadkari as part of a review-cum-inspection tour aimed at strengthening NCC operations in the Vidarbha region.

The meeting focused on expanding NCC’s reach in remote and sensitive districts such as Gadchiroli and Chandrapur, in line with national objectives of youth development and nation-building. Maj Gen Tyagi extended Maharashtra Day greetings to the Union Minister and highlighted the active involvement of NCC cadets in key social initiatives, including road safety awareness, anti-drug campaigns, and the Swachh Bharat Abhiyan.

He also underscored the need for enhanced infrastructure to support NCC activities across major cities such as Nagpur, Mumbai, and Kolhapur. A key proposal included the establishment of a dedicated State Academy in Nagpur to boost advanced training capabilities. Concerns were raised over existing infrastructural gaps affecting emerging training domains like drone operations and cyber skills, particularly for cadets in Vidarbha.

Further, the ADG sought allocation of training resources at Futala Lake to strengthen the NCC Navy Unit’s activities. Nagpur’s NCC Group, notable for housing Army, Navy, and Air Force wings along with specialized riding training through the Remount Veterinary Corps (RVC) Unit, was highlighted as requiring urgent upgrades to sustain sports and adventure training exposure for cadets.

Responding to the proposals, the Union Minister praised NCC’s significant contribution to youth empowerment and national service. He assured full support in enhancing infrastructure, promoting expansion, encouraging women’s participation, and facilitating corporate partnerships. Gadkari also advised that detailed proposals be formally submitted to his office for further action.

The meeting was attended by Kushal Vyas, NCC Group Commander, and Ameay Kanade, Training Officer of NCC Group Nagpur.

Earlier in the day, Maj Gen Tyagi reviewed training activities at the Officers Training Academy NCC, where he assessed ongoing programmes and noted the transformative training initiatives being implemented under the Directorate General NCC.
