Nagpur: In a deeply distressing incident, a mother and daughter from a well-off family allegedly died by suicide within the jurisdiction of Nandanvan Police Station, triggering shock and concern across the city.
The deceased have been identified as Sangeeta Dhabale (mother) and Akanksha Bramhe (daughter), who were living together at their residence. According to police, both allegedly hanged themselves late at night using a rope tied to an iron angle inside their home.
A suicide note recovered from the spot has added a disturbing dimension to the case. In the note, the duo expressed their wish that their last rites be performed in their native village at the same place where Akanksha’s father was cremated. They also clearly stated that their bodies should not be handed over to their in-laws.
Property Dispute Suspected Behind Extreme Step
Preliminary investigation suggests that Akanksha had been married to Lokesh Bramhe two years ago and had recently suffered the loss of her newborn daughter. Following the tragedy, she had returned to live with her mother.
Police sources revealed that Lokesh had been frequently involved in disputes with his wife and mother-in-law over agricultural land, house ownership, and other property-related issues. On the night of April 30, he reportedly visited their residence, where a heated argument broke out over property matters. Investigators suspect that the continued harassment and mental stress may have driven the mother-daughter duo to take the extreme step.
Suicide Note Points to Son-in-Law
The Nagpur Police have registered a case of accidental death and sent both bodies for post-mortem examination. Under the supervision of Senior Police Inspector Kailas Deshmane, a detailed probe is underway.
Based on the contents of the suicide note and initial findings, police suspect the role of Lokesh Bramhe in abetting the suicide. The note has been seized and sent for handwriting verification as part of the investigation.
The tragic incident has sparked outrage and grief in Nagpur, once again highlighting the darker side of familial disputes. Statements of neighbours are being recorded, and technical evidence is being collected to establish the sequence of events.
Police sources indicated that the process of registering a case against the accused is underway, and he may soon be taken into custody for questioning. The incident has left the city shaken, with many expressing anguish over the tragic end of what was once a stable family, reportedly torn apart by a prolonged property dispute.
