Mumbai: The Maharashtra State Board of Secondary and Higher Secondary Education has announced the Class 12 (HSC) examination results for 2026, recording an overall pass percentage of 89.79%. This marks a decline from last year’s 91.88%, indicating a slight dip in student performance across the state.
According to official data, out of 14,44,713 students who registered for the examination, 14,33,058 appeared, and 12,86,843 candidates successfully cleared the exams.
Among the state’s divisions, the Konkan division emerged as the top performer with an impressive pass percentage of 94.14%. In contrast, the Latur division reported the lowest success rate at 84.14%, highlighting regional disparities in academic outcomes.
Continuing the trend of previous years, female students outperformed their male counterparts across all divisional boards. Girls achieved a pass percentage of 93.15%, while boys recorded 86.80%, resulting in a notable gap of 6.35 percentage points.
Stream-wise analysis shows that the Science stream led with the highest pass percentage at 96.44%. The Commerce stream followed with 87.03%, while Vocational courses recorded 82.64%. The Arts stream registered the lowest performance among major streams, with a pass percentage of 78.02%.
In a noteworthy achievement, 26 out of 153 subjects recorded a 100% pass rate, reflecting strong performances in select disciplines. Meanwhile, the ITI stream reported a pass percentage of 81.78%.
The results underline both achievements and challenges within Maharashtra’s higher secondary education system, with authorities expected to further analyse the decline and address gaps in performance across regions and streams.
