Nagpur: In a late-night raid on Thursday, Tehsil Police apprehended ten cattle that were being cruelly confined in a densely packed area without food or water near the railway tracks in Dobinagar, Mominpura. The animals were allegedly being held for illegal slaughter.

Acting on a tip-off around 12:20 am, police raided the spot and found the animals tied in harsh conditions among bushes near the tracks. Upon investigation, the cattle were traced to three accused identified as Aslam Qureshi alias Dr. Qureshi (55), Shadab Shaikh (28), and Tufail Ansari, all residents of Guard Line, Mominpura.

Police have seized the ten cattle—valued at approximately ₹1.8 lakh—and transferred them to a local cow protection centre. Based on a complaint filed by Police Constable Sanjay Tiwari (36), an FIR has been registered under Sections 5, 5(b), and 9 of the Maharashtra Animal Preservation Act, 1976 (Amendment 1995), along with Section 11 of the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act, 1960.
