Nagpur: In a deeply disturbing incident that highlights the vulnerability of animals to human cruelty, a man was booked by Gittikhadan Police for allegedly sexually assaulting a horse and stealing from the Nagpur District Equestrian Association’s Horse Riding Academy near Seminary Hills, late on May 17.

The accused has been identified as Suraj alias Chhotya Sundar Khobragade (30), a resident of Manavata Nagar, Gittikhadan. The complaint was lodged by Pramod Sampat Ladave (31), the owner of the riding academy.

According to police sources, the accused trespassed into the academy premises during the night and committed sexual abuse on a horse housed there. He also stole four iron angles valued at ₹2,000. His suspicious activity was partially observed by the night security guard, who attempted to intercept him but failed.

The next morning, Pramod reviewed CCTV footage, which revealed the heinous act. Shocked and distressed, he immediately approached Gittikhadan Police Station, leading to the registration of a case.

Based on the complaint, police booked the accused under relevant sections of the BNS and the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals Act.

This incident has sparked outrage and raised concerns about the safety of animals in public and private institutions across Nagpur. Animal welfare activists have demanded stricter surveillance and harsher penalties in such cases to prevent recurrence.
