Nagpur: Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has launched a strict recovery campaign targeting power consumers in Nagpur division who have failed to clear pending electricity bills. Chief Engineer Dilip Dodke stated that electricity supply to over 9,000 consumers has been disconnected this month as part of the drive.
The Nagpur division, which includes Nagpur and Wardha districts, has approximately 18.82 lakh consumers across residential, commercial, industrial, and other categories. Of these, 11,38,368 consumers have cleared their bills this month. Despite repeated appeals to defaulters to settle their dues and receiving notices via mobile before disconnections, many failed to comply, leading to action by MSEDCL.
Between January 1 and January 28, power supply was temporarily disconnected for 9,671 defaulters. This includes 6,319 consumers in Nagpur city, 1,436 in Nagpur rural, and 1,416 in Wardha district.
Partial Restoration After Payments:
Out of the disconnected connections, 2,888 consumers have settled their dues, including reconnection fees, and restored their power supply. These include 1,934 consumers from Nagpur city, 483 from Nagpur rural, and 471 from Wardha district.
Campaign to Continue with Strict Measures:
The aggressive campaign against defaulters will continue. MSEDCL has formed special teams comprising technical, accounting, and human resource personnel for disconnection operations. Power will only be restored after the full payment of dues along with reconnection charges. Additionally, legal action is being taken against consumers who illegally reconnect their power supply after disconnection.
Online Payment Options Encouraged:
To avoid disconnection and inconvenience, MSEDCL has urged defaulters to immediately pay their outstanding bills. Consumers can make payments at local bill payment centers or through MSEDCL’s website www.mahadiscom.in and mobile app.
Consumers opting for online payments receive a 0.25% discount on monthly bills for payments up to ₹500 and a 1% prompt payment discount. All online payment modes, except credit cards, are free of charge. MSEDCL has appealed to consumers to clear their dues on time to avoid disconnection and potential legal action.
