Nagpur: November 2024 has been officially recorded as the second warmest November in India since 1901, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). The nationwide average temperatures were notably higher, with the average maximum temperature rising by 0.62°C, the minimum by 1.05°C, and the mean temperature by 0.84°C, compared to the 1991-2020 baseline.
This unprecedented warmth placed November 2024 as the second warmest for maximum temperatures, the third warmest for mean temperatures, and the seventh warmest for minimum temperatures in India’s historical records.
The northwest region of India was the most affected, registering its warmest November ever with a mean temperature anomaly of +1.37°C. Similarly, the central and southern peninsular regions also experienced temperatures above the normal range, contributing to the overall temperature rise across the country.
This anomaly comes as a major concern, highlighting the growing trend of rising temperatures and unpredictable climate patterns affecting different regions of India. November, traditionally considered a cooler month marking the onset of winter, has raised alarms about the accelerating impacts of climate change in the country.
