Nagpur: The Nagpur Traffic Police on Monday, December 2, demonstrated their commitment to road safety by cracking down on traffic violators, issuing challans worth ₹15.19 lakh in a single day. Led by Deputy Commissioner of Police (DCP) Archit Chandak, the traffic department issued 5,924 challans, marking one of their most successful operations in recent times.
Recently, the Nagpur Traffic Police also implemented helmet rules for pillion riders. Non-compliance with this rule attracts a ₹1,000 fine. Although some citizens have expressed their displeasure with the move, officials emphasized that it is for public safety. They assured that awareness campaigns would precede stricter enforcement of fines for pillion riders without helmets.
The department had launched a special campaign across all traffic zones targeting violators and reckless drivers while strictly enforcing regulations under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act.
“The department appeals to all citizens to adhere to traffic rules by wearing helmets when riding two-wheelers, using seat belts when driving four-wheelers, avoiding triple-seat riding, not jumping traffic signals, and refraining from driving on the wrong side of the road,” DCP Chandak urged.
