Nagpur: In a major breakthrough, the Social Security Branch (SSB) of the Crime Branch apprehended a wanted accused in a high-profile MD (Mephedrone) trafficking case. The accused, Tabrez Alam alias Tipu Afroz Alam, 33, was arrested near Naik Road, Mahal Fort, Nagpur, on Tuesday, December 3, following a meticulously planned operation.
Acting on credible intelligence, the Crime Branch team set a trap in the Kotwali jurisdiction to apprehend Tabrez Alam, who had been evading arrest. Upon questioning, the accused confessed to his involvement in the case, which had previously led to the seizure of MD powder and the arrest of three other accomplices. Tabrez was handed over to Hudkeshwar Police for further legal proceedings.
The case dates back to June 18, 2024, when the Social Security Branch received a tip-off about illegal drug trafficking in Pawanputra Nagar, Umred Road, Bahadura Fata. A grey Activa scooter (MH 31 FV 8427) carrying MD powder was intercepted.
During the operation, three individuals were apprehended: Rohan Suresh Dhakulkar, 28, resident of Pawanputra Nagar, Umred Road, Shubham Suresh Dhakulkar, 31, resident of the same area and Vedant Vikas Dhakulkar, 24, resident of Netaji Market, behind Janki Talkies, Dhantoli.
A search of the vehicle yielded 71.11 grams of MD powder valued at ₹7,11,100, along with four mobile phones, a weighing scale, ₹22,500 in cash, and the Activa scooter. The total seizure amounted to ₹8,45,100.
The arrested individuals revealed that they were working under the guidance of Tabrez Alam, procuring and distributing illegal MD powder in Nagpur. Based on this information, Tabrez was declared wanted, leading to his eventual arrest.
The accused have been charged under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act. While Tabrez remains in police custody for further interrogation, the investigation aims to uncover the full extent of the drug network.
