Full-Scale Mock Exercise Conducted at Ajni Yard to Enhance Disaster Preparedness in Nagpur

Nagpur: In line with Railway Board directives, a comprehensive “Full-Scale Mock Exercise” was conducted at Ajni Yard under the leadership of Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Administration) P.S. Khairkar and Divisional Safety Officer S.K. Jaiswal. The exercise took place on January 7, 2025, at 4:00 PM, in collaboration with the Railway Rescue Team, National Disaster Response Force (NDRF), and Civil Defence teams.


The exercise simulated a train accident involving Train No. 01043 Madgaon-Korba Express, showcasing derailed coaches and a fire breakout in one of the coaches. Rescue operations were carried out jointly by Railway, NDRF, and Civil Defence teams. The scenario included rescuing one simulated deceased passenger, five severely injured passengers, and four passengers with minor injuries.


Senior divisional officials, including Additional Divisional Railway Manager (Administration) Shri P.S. Khairkar, reached the mock accident site to oversee rescue and relief operations. To manage the situation, the Accident Relief Train (ART), Accident Relief Medical Van (ARMV), and medical teams were deployed. Assistance from the Nagpur Fire Brigade, state police, and Civil Defence teams ensured swift containment of the simulated fire.


Simulated injured passengers were provided all possible support, including ex-gratia payments. Free railway passes were issued to their relatives for onward travel.


The exercise was declared a mock drill by Divisional Safety Officer S.K. Jaiswal.
