Nagpur: In a significant move, Rashtrasant Tukadoji Maharaj Nagpur University (RTMNU) has provided relief to students who failed their exams by allowing them to continue their studies, provided they clear their pending exams. The university has instructed its affiliated colleges to admit these students under the new provision.
This decision follows appeals from student organizations urging the university to grant another opportunity for students in both undergraduate and postgraduate courses, in accordance with the new education policy. A proposal was subsequently presented to RTMNU’s academic council to amend the existing ATKT (Allow to Keep Term) regulations.
The academic council approved the proposal, enabling failed students to re-enroll in their respective colleges, provided they pass their pending exams. However, students who fail more than 50% of their subjects are not eligible to continue their courses. Traditionally, ATKT was offered only to students failing in two or three subjects, but the new amendment allows students to advance to the next academic year if they clear their previous exams.
Additionally, the university has issued a notification to colleges, directing them to admit failed students by charging only 10% of the total fees upfront. The remaining 90% will be collected once the students successfully pass their exams. If a student fails to clear their exams again, their admission will be cancelled and the fees paid will not be refunded, according to the notification.
