Nagpur: A 41-year-old woman from Ayodhya Nagar, Nagpur, who fell victim to an online trading scam, has successfully recovered Rs 8.22 lakh with the prompt intervention of the Cyber Team at Hudkeshwar Police Station.
According to police sources, the complainant had lodged a report on February 2, 2025, stating that she had been added to a WhatsApp group promoting online trading schemes. The group created the impression that other members were making substantial profits by investing money, thereby luring the woman to invest a total of Rs 9,85,965 in phases.
As she was pressured to invest further, she was told that unless she continued with the process, her already invested amount would not be returned. Alarmed by this, she approached Hudkeshwar Police Station and filed a complaint on March 17, 2025.
Acting swiftly, Police Sub-Inspector Naresh Davre, Cyber Officers Dipti Bante and Ravinder Kaur Hazra registered the complaint and uploaded the case details on the National Cyber Crime Reporting Portal. The team traced the transaction to an account in S Bank (Account No. 001677900000042) and immediately initiated official communication with the concerned bank.
In a breakthrough, the police discovered that the fraudulent account held a staggering Rs 96.56 crore, which was promptly frozen to prevent further misuse. Following due legal process, the police approached the court, which then ordered that the complainant’s invested amount of Rs 8,22,986 be returned from the frozen account.
The full amount was successfully deposited into the complainant’s account on April 22, 2025, marking a major success for Hudkeshwar Police’s cyber unit.
This achievement was made possible under the guidance of Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint Commissioner Nisar Tamboli, Additional Commissioner Shivaji Rathod, and Deputy Commissioner Rashmita Rao, with direct supervision by Assistant Commissioner Narendra Hivare. The operation was led by Senior PI Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar, PI (Crime) Nagesh Kumar Chatarkar, PSI Naresh Davre, and cyber staff officers Dipti Bante and Ravinder Kaur Hazra.
