Nagpur: Following the recent terror attack on tourists in Pahalgam, the Central Government has issued a directive asking Pakistani nationals residing in India to leave the country within 48 hours, prompting heightened activity among intelligence and police agencies in Nagpur, where over 2,200 Pakistani citizens are currently living — mostly on valid business visas.
These individuals include people from all religious backgrounds and are primarily settled in North Nagpur and adjoining areas. Although they have entered India legally on visas, the sudden directive has sparked concern and uncertainty within this community.
According to senior police sources, the Nagpur Police Department does have official records of these residents. However, fresh verification is now underway to assess if any individuals are overstaying their visas or are engaged in unauthorized activities. Officials are also cross-checking the nature of their businesses and whether they have applied for timely visa renewals.
Commenting on the developments, Nagpur Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal said, “We are conducting verification drives as a precautionary measure. While official directives are still awaited, we are fully prepared to take action in accordance with the government’s orders.”
The order was reportedly discussed during a high-level Central Security Committee (CCS) meeting, after which intelligence agencies were put on alert. Though no formal orders have reached local police stations yet, search operations have already begun across sensitive areas in the city.
Police officials stated that once the visas are canceled, affected Pakistani nationals will be compelled to leave within 48 hours. The crackdown has triggered panic among visa-holding Pakistani residents in Nagpur, many of whom are now unsure about their future in the city.
This situation presents a major enforcement challenge for local police and intelligence units, as they work to implement the order efficiently while maintaining public order and avoiding unnecessary unrest.
