Nagpur: In a major step forward for the Nagpur Metro Rail Project Phase-II, the Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha Metro) has successfully completed height-raising work of Extra High Voltage (EHV) power lines on Kamptee Road. This milestone comes as part of the crucial utility shifting process, which is now in full swing across all four reaches of the Metro expansion.
Phase-II is an extension of the existing Metro Phase-I, stretching further in all four directions of the city. As construction activities accelerate, utility shifting — the process of relocating underground power, water, sewage, and telecom lines — is being prioritized to prevent disruption and ensure smooth execution of the project.
The latest achievement involves the successful elevation of 400 kV and 132 kV EHV lines that cross the Metro alignment at Reach-2 on Kamptee Road. The operation was carried out in close coordination with the Maharashtra State Electricity Transmission Company Limited (MSETCL), both at the Nagpur division and its Mumbai headquarters.
The technically demanding task began with the approval of design drawings, followed by fabrication, transportation, and on-site assembly of monopoles. Maha Metro’s team erected three monopoles at the location, conducted conductor stringing across the highway, and energized the 400 kV/132 kV circuits — all within a tightly scheduled six-day power block. The old lattice towers, commonly used in high-voltage transmission, were then dismantled.
Maha Metro officials confirmed that the entire operation was executed seamlessly and thanked senior MSETCL officials for their timely support and guidance. The successful completion of this utility shifting effort marks a significant milestone and will play a key role in the fast-tracked execution of Nagpur Metro’s Phase-II.
With geo-technical investigations now complete across most locations, Maha Metro has already begun civil work in all four reaches, keeping the project firmly on track for timely delivery.
