Nagpur: Continuing its crackdown on criminal elements in the city, Nagpur Police has intensified its special crime-checking operation under the directive of Police Commissioner Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal. For the third consecutive day, Detection Branch (DB) teams conducted extensive checks across all five zones, focusing on history-sheeters, released convicts, and other repeat offenders.
A total of 249 criminals were checked in the massive operation, which aims to curb repeat offenses and monitor those with a criminal background.
Zone-wise Crackdown Highlights:
- Zone 1: 52 criminals checked in areas like Pratapnagar (21), Hingna (4), Wadi (13), MIDC (13), and Bajaj Nagar (1).
- Zone 2: 49 offenders screened in Sitabuldi (7), Ambazari (1), Dhantoli (13), Sadar (6), Gittikhadan (13), and Mankapur (9).
- Zone 3: 26 criminals examined in Ganeshpeth (1), Tehsil (7), Lakadganj (10), Pachpaoli (3), and Shantinagar (5).
- Zone 4: 50 suspects checked in Imamwada (20), Nandanvan (11), Sakkardara (6), Hudkeshwar (1), Beltarodi (3), and Wathoda (5).
- Zone 5: 72 offenders scrutinized in Juna Kamptee (12), Naya Kamptee (11), Kalamna (7), Yashodharanagar (10), Jaripatka (4), Pardi (20), and Koradi (8).

Notable Actions:
- In Kalamna, a murder accused recently released from prison, Shubham Sharma, was booked preventively. Police also seized mobile phones worth ₹1.04 lakh from local suspects.
- In Beltarodi, rape and kidnapping accused Shankarlal Zharia was booked and added to the ‘SIMBA’ tracking system.
Verification and Surveillance:
All identified offenders were checked against the ‘SIMBA’ database. Their residences were searched, and their professions verified. Police discovered that some accused were working as auto-rickshaw drivers, in sweet factories, or even as security guards. Employers and agencies have been instructed to conduct background checks before hiring staff.
Surprisingly, several accused were found to be engaged in businesses like dhabas, food stalls, fabrication, and painting. Many others were reported to be residing outside the city or at religious locations, with DB teams collecting information from family members and sharing it with relevant DB units.
Follow-Up Measures:
Offenders were served notices, and in some cases, preventive action under relevant IPC sections was taken. CCTV footage was also used to confirm their presence and activities. DB teams are closely monitoring areas known for repeat criminal activity, especially in Sonegaon, Pratapnagar, Wathoda, Koradi, Gittikhadan, Imamwada, and Jaripatka.

Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal has warned criminals to stay within the bounds of the law. He stated, “This special operation is aimed at creating fear among criminals. We are closely monitoring all dark zones, and those intending to commit crimes should be prepared to face strict legal action.”
The operation has sparked a sense of alertness across criminal circles in the city, reinforcing Nagpur Police’s commitment to law enforcement and public safety.
