Nagpur: In a shocking incident, Dr Archana Anil Rahule (50), an assistant professor at Government Medical College and Hospital (GMCH), Nagpur, was allegedly murdered by her husband, Dr Anil Rahule (52), a professor at a medical college in Raipur, Chhattisgarh. The crime took place at their residence in Ladekar Layout, Hudkeshwar, and came to light on Saturday evening.
According to Hudkeshwar police, Dr Anil Rahule, who visits Nagpur once or twice a week, returned home and discovered his wife’s decomposed body in a pool of dried blood near the bed. He had noticed a foul smell upon entering the house and immediately alerted neighbors, who then contacted the police.
Senior Police Inspector Dnyaneshwar Bhedodkar led the preliminary investigation. Senior officers, including Joint Commissioner of Police Nisar Tamboli, DCP Zone 4 Rashmita Rav, ACP (Crime) Abhijeet Patil, and ACP Narendra Hivare, also visited the crime scene. Police conducted a panchnama and sent the body for postmortem to GMCH.
Initially, police suspected robbery as a motive. However, during the investigation, the victim’s sister, Dr Neema Bhagwan Sonare, informed the police about ongoing marital discord. She revealed that Anil had been suspicious of Archana’s fidelity for the past six months, which led to repeated quarrels.
Upon sustained interrogation, Anil confessed to killing Archana with an iron rod during a heated argument a few days ago. He has been booked for murder under relevant sections of the IPC and placed under arrest.
Hudkeshwar police are continuing the investigation to gather further evidence in the case.
