Nagpur: In a bid to increase voter participation and reduce congestion at polling booths, the District Election Department has announced the addition of 12 new polling stations in each assembly constituency of Nagpur. Of these, seven will be located in slum areas and five in housing societies, making voting more accessible to a larger section of the population.

Nagpur district, which comprises 12 assembly constituencies, has a total of 44.80 lakh registered voters as of October 3. This includes 22.44 lakh male voters, 22.35 lakh female voters, and 294 transgender voters. The administration is keen on improving voter turnout in the upcoming assembly elections, particularly after witnessing lower-than-expected participation during the last Lok Sabha elections.

To facilitate smoother voting, the district will now have a total of 4,510 polling booths spread across its constituencies. The distribution of booths is as follows: Katol (332), Saoner (370), Hingna (472), Umred (395), Kamathi (524), Ramtek (359), South-West Nagpur (378), South Nagpur (350), East Nagpur (364), Central Nagpur (308), West Nagpur (351), and North Nagpur (407).

The effort to establish polling booths in both slum areas and housing societies aims to ensure more equitable access to voting, with the administration focused on avoiding the low turnout seen in previous elections. By increasing the number of polling booths, the district hopes to offer greater convenience to voters and ease the process on election day.
