Nagpur: The indefinite strike initiated by petrol pump operators in Pune on Tuesday, October 16, is raising concerns that it could spread to Nagpur, potentially causing widespread disruptions to vehicular movement in the city. The strike, launched in response to unmet demands from petroleum companies, has already begun to impact fuel supply in Pune, and there are growing fears that the ripple effect could soon be felt in Nagpur.

The operators in Pune have stopped dispatching fuel tanks to petroleum depots, leading to an anticipated fuel shortage from Wednesday. If the protest extends to Nagpur, it could lead to a severe fuel crisis, affecting everyday commuters and commercial transport in the city.

The Petrol Dealers’ Association in Pune claims that flawed tender practices in fuel transportation are resulting in increased incidents of fuel theft. Despite their repeated pleas for intervention, the authorities have not taken any action to address these concerns, prompting the operators to take drastic measures.

The association is demanding an immediate overhaul of all existing transportation tenders, calling for their cancellation and reissuance at feasible rates to ensure the secure delivery of fuel. They are also pushing for the immediate suspension of officials who neglected safety protocols, leading to operational setbacks.

Additionally, the dealers have called for a detailed police investigation into the potential involvement of officials in the fuel theft incidents, highlighting the need for accountability and transparency within the industry.

As the strike's impact looms over Nagpur, residents are worried that a fuel shortage could bring the city’s vehicular movement to a standstill. With Diwali around the corner, such a crisis could not only affect daily commutes but also put a damper on festive travel plans, especially for those looking to travel to and from Pune. If the strike expands, Nagpurians may face significant challenges in securing alternative travel arrangements during the festive season.
