Nagpur: In a crackdown on illegal liquor sale on Holi, observed as a dry day across the city, Crime Branch Unit 05 of Nagpur Police conducted a raid within the jurisdiction of Wathoda Police Station and seized liquor stock worth Rs 69,020. The action was carried out on March 3, 2026, between 2.11 pm and 3.20 pm at Plot No. 203, Sarode Layout, under Wathoda police limits.
A case has been registered under Section 65(E) of the Maharashtra Prohibition Act at Wathoda Police Station. The complainant in the case is Police Constable Rajendra Dinkarrao Taklikar (42), attached to Crime Branch Unit 05, Nagpur City.
During the raid, police apprehended the accused, identified as Ganesh Vasudev Jagjod (52), a resident of Sarode Layout, Wathoda, for allegedly storing and selling country and foreign liquor illegally despite the dry day restrictions imposed on account of Holi. Another accused, Gaurav Rajesh Bidwaik (27), a resident of Sarode Nagar, Wathoda, has been named in the offence and is currently wanted in connection with the case.
The seized stock includes 245 plastic bottles (90 ml each) of country liquor (Bhigari Santra) valued at Rs 19,600, 144 plastic bottles (180 ml each) of the same brand worth Rs 20,160, and 77 glass bottles (180 ml each) labelled “Royal Stag” valued at Rs 29,260. The total value of the confiscated liquor amounts to Rs 69,020.
Police officials said the accused were found in possession of the liquor stock for illegal sale during the prohibited period on Holi. The seized material and relevant documents have been handed over to Wathoda Police Station for further investigation and legal proceedings under the Maharashtra Prohibition Act.
