Nagpur: Imamwada Police on Tuesday detained a 22-year-old man who was found carrying a deadly weapon during Holi patrolling within the police station limits.
Acting on specific information, the police team reached the TB Ward Quarters area where the suspect attempted to escape by throwing away the weapon near a wall compound. He was chased and apprehended on the spot.
The accused has been identified as Anirudh Harish Wasanik (22), resident of Milind Buddha Vihar, Rambagh, Nagpur. In the presence of panch witnesses, police seized a steel sword valued at approximately ₹200 from his possession. According to officials, the accused was carrying the weapon with the intention to commit a cognizable offence and had also violated standing prohibitory orders enforced in the area.
Based on a complaint lodged by Police Constable Devendra Bhonde, a case has been registered at Imamwada Police Station under Section 4/25 of the Indian Arms Act and Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.
Further inquiries are underway.
