Nagpur: A shocking incident from Koradi in Nagpur district has surfaced after CCTV footage showing an elderly woman allegedly pouring hot water on a five-year-old boy went viral on social media. The incident took place near Aramshin in the Koradi area on the morning of Rangpanchami, around 8:30 AM on Tuesday.
According to initial information, the child was playing outside with a water pichkari, spraying coloured water as part of the festival celebrations. While playing, he reportedly sprayed water on an elderly neighbour passing by. Angered by this, the woman is alleged to have reacted violently by emptying a bucket filled with hot water over the child.
The hot water is believed to have caused burns on the lower part of the boy’s body. Relatives are reported to have poured cold water on him soon after, but by then he had already suffered visible injuries. The entire episode was captured on a neighbour’s CCTV camera, and the video is currently being widely shared online, drawing strong public outrage.
Despite the seriousness of the incident, no police complaint has been filed yet, confirmed Police Inspector Popatrao Dhaytonde of Koradi Police Station. “Prima facie, the child has suffered burn injuries, but no parent or guardian has approached us even after more than 24 hours. We suspect that the elderly woman might be the child’s grandmother, which could be why the family has not lodged a complaint,” PI Dhaytonde said.
Police officials have stated that they are verifying the identities of both the child and the woman and are reviewing the CCTV footage that has now gone viral. Further action will depend on whether the family comes forward or if the incident is officially reported.
Investigation is in progress.
