Nagpur: A traffic police constable was seriously injured on March 3, 2026, at around 6:10 PM when two youths riding a speeding Hero Maestro (MH-49 P-3959) rammed into him in an attempt to evade checking during a Holi and Dhulivandan blockade at Chandra Shekhar Azad Square, Lakadganj.
The Holi bandobast was being conducted by the traffic branch under PSI Pradeep Devdasji Shrirav (57), accompanied by HC Sanjay Gite, PC Anil Gahlod and two female constables.
As the officers signaled the vehicle to stop, the riders drove recklessly, swerving across the barricaded lane at high speed. They hit HC Sanjay Gite with considerable force before crashing into the road divider. Despite being injured, the riders attempted to flee, but were overpowered and taken into custody by the police team. HC Gite sustained severe injuries to his arms, legs and head, and was rushed to New Era Hospital, where he is undergoing treatment.
The arrested accused are Rupesh Kileshwar Uike (23) of Swatantrya Nagar, Nandanvan Slums and Gaurav Gyaneshwar Chavan (21) of Galli No. 9, near Atta Chakki, Nandanvan Slums. Police stated that the duo was fully aware that such an impact could have been fatal, yet they deliberately struck the constable while conspiring to escape, thereby amounting to an attempt to murder.
Based on the complaint of the injured officer, a case has been registered at Lakadganj Police Station under Section 109 of the BNS and Section 184 of the Motor Vehicles Act. Further probe is underway.
