Nagpur: As Nagpur and other parts of Vidarbha gear up for Holi celebrations, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a Yellow Alert for heatwave conditions on March 13 (Holika Dahan) and March 14 (Rangpanchami). Rising temperatures are expected to add to the festive fervor, with the mercury soaring beyond 40°C in several districts.
According to IMD, heatwave conditions are very likely in some pockets of Nagpur and Akola, while isolated areas in Amravati, Chandrapur, and Yavatmal may also experience extreme heat. On March 14, Akola, Amravati, and Yavatmal are expected to witness similar conditions.
In the past 24 hours, temperatures in Vidarbha ranged from 38°C to 41°C, significantly above normal levels. Akola recorded the highest maximum temperature at 41.3°C (+4.6°C above normal), followed by Chandrapur (40.6°C), Brahmapuri (40.4°C), Nagpur (40.2°C), and Yavatmal (40.0°C). Minimum temperatures remained within the normal range, with Buldhana reporting the highest at 23.6°C.
With Holi revelers set to take to the streets for celebrations, authorities have urged citizens to take precautions against heat-related illnesses. Doctors advise staying hydrated, avoiding prolonged sun exposure, and wearing light, breathable clothing. The IMD also predicts a further rise of 2°C in maximum temperatures over the next two days before a slight dip by 2-3°C later.
Do’s and Don’ts During Heatwave Conditions:
