Pune: Political tension has escalated between the ruling and Opposition parties in Pune following the last-minute cancellation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s scheduled visit to inaugurate the Pune Metro's underground rail route from Civil Court to Swargate. The inauguration, originally planned for Thursday, was postponed due to inclement weather predictions in the city over the past few days.

The Congress has swiftly announced that it will hold an inauguration event at the Civil Court Metro station on Friday, in what appears to be a symbolic move. Meanwhile, the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) is now planning a grand ceremony for the official opening of the service.

According to Pune Metro officials, the underground metro service will commence soon after the official inauguration takes place. "The service on the underground route from Civil Court to Swargate will begin in the coming days. It will only be opened after the official event," said Hemant Sonawane, Executive Director of Pune Metro.

Prime Minister Modi was set to inaugurate a total of 11 projects during his planned visit, including the new Pune Metro line. However, his trip was called off due to adverse weather conditions, adding fuel to the political friction between parties in the city.
