Nagpur: In a citywide crackdown on traffic violations, Nagpur Traffic Police penalised 6,373 vehicle drivers under various sections of the Motor Vehicles Act on December 30, Monday.
The drive resulted in the collection of ₹4,71,900 as settlement charges. The action comes as part of heightened measures to ensure public safety during New Year celebrations.
Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Singal announced that the police have launched a nakabandi operation across Nagpur starting Monday at 4:30 pm, focusing on curbing drunk driving and other violations. Checkpoints have been established at strategic locations, with personnel equipped with breath analyzers to monitor compliance.
Dr. Singal also issued a stern warning to clubs and bars against serving alcohol to minors or operating without valid permits. “Strict action will be taken against establishments violating these norms,” he emphasized.
To ensure effective law enforcement, special flying squads have been deployed throughout the city. “Our priority is to ensure an accident-free and safe New Year for all residents,” stated Dr. Singal.
The police department’s proactive measures highlight their commitment to maintaining order and safety as Nagpur gears up for New Year’s Eve celebrations on Tuesday night.
As part of a special drive to ensure public safety during New Year’s celebrations, the Nagpur Traffic Police have announced key traffic restrictions, including the closure of major flyovers and route changes to curb violations like drunk driving, overspeeding, and dangerous road behaviors.
To manage traffic and enhance safety, several key routes in Nagpur will be closed from 6 pm on December 31, 2024, to 6 am on January 1, 2025:
1. Futala Lake Area: Roads leading to Telangkhedi Hanuman Temple, Air Force Nagar, and Futala Vasati will remain inaccessible to vehicles.
2. West High Court Road: The stretch between Law College Square and Shankar Nagar Square will be shut in both directions.
3. Flyover Closures: Flyovers at Sitabuldi Gowari, Sadar (Katol Road-Manakapur), Sakkardara, Panchpaoli, and Mehdi Bagh will remain closed to traffic.
