Nagpur: In a commendable display of vigilance, a Nagpur Metro commuter and station officials at Chhatrapati Square Metro Station collaborated to prevent a potential digital fraud incident. This event underscores the critical importance of public awareness in combating cybercrime.

The incident unfolded when a passenger, having traveled from Cotton Market Square to Chhatrapati Square, approached another commuter on the platform, claiming to have lost his ticket and lacking cash. He requested to use the commuter’s mobile phone to contact a friend for a ₹30 money transfer. Despite being offered the amount directly, the individual insisted on making the call.

Upon dialing, the assisting commuter noticed a “spam call” alert on his phone’s screen. Recognizing the potential threat, he promptly terminated the call and reported the matter to the station controller. Metro officials responded swiftly, uncovering ₹250 in the possession of the individual who had claimed to be penniless, raising further suspicion about his intentions.

The authorities at Chhatrapati Square Metro Station immediately contacted Rana Pratap Nagar Police Station. Law enforcement officers arrived promptly, taking both individuals to the police station for further investigation.

This incident highlights the growing prevalence of digital fraud and the necessity for public vigilance. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) has been actively issuing advisories to educate citizens about cyber threats, emphasizing the importance of safeguarding personal information and remaining alert to potential scams.

Nagpur Metro officials commend the alert commuter for his prompt action and urge all passengers to remain cautious, especially when approached with unusual requests involving personal devices or financial transactions.
