Nagpur: The Central Railway's Nagpur Division has achieved a remarkable milestone in ticket checking operations during the financial year 2024-25, generating a record-breaking revenue of ₹28,16,33,663 through intensive ticket checking drives. This outstanding achievement is a testament to the division’s stringent enforcement measures aimed at curbing ticketless and irregular travel, ensuring a disciplined and lawful travel experience for passengers.
During this period, the division detected a total of 4,74,412 cases of irregular travel, leading to significant revenue generation. Ticketless travel alone accounted for 2,57,025 cases, contributing ₹10.28 crore in excess fare and ₹6.88 crore in excess charge. Additionally, irregular travel cases stood at 2,12,698, generating ₹5.47 crore in excess fare and ₹5.42 crore in excess charge. The division also recorded 4,689 cases of unbooked luggage, resulting in the collection of ₹8.60 lakh as excess fare and ₹4.74 lakh as an excess charge.
The remarkable performance of the ticket-checking staff has been instrumental in achieving this milestone. Among the top-performing ticket examiners, Shri Kamlesh Keshav (Senior Ticket Examiner, Amla) detected 6,719 cases, contributing ₹42.52 lakh in revenue. Shri Alok Jha (Head Ticket Examiner, Nagpur) recorded 6,049 cases, generating ₹40.58 lakh, while Shri Mukhram Meena (Senior Ticket Examiner, Amla) identified 6,653 cases, amounting to ₹38.81 lakh in revenue.
The Railway administration urges all passengers to travel with valid journey tickets and to refrain from occupying reserved coaches without confirmed or RAC reservations. Passengers with fully waitlisted PRS tickets are advised to cancel their tickets at PRS centres up to 30 minutes before the scheduled departure of the train. If no refund is claimed within this period, they are permitted to travel in unreserved coaches. However, fully waitlisted e-tickets remain invalid for travel. In the case of partially confirmed tickets, passengers with confirmed reservations may travel in their allotted class, while those with waitlisted tickets can only travel in unreserved coaches.
