Nagpur: In a tragic incident, a tiger was killed in the early hours of Wednesday, January 22, after being hit by a speeding vehicle on the Umred-Girad Road. The accident has raised concerns over the safety of wildlife in areas intersected by roads and highways.

This incident marks the 10th tiger death reported in Maharashtra in just the last 20 days, highlighting the growing threats to the state’s tiger population. Conservationists have voiced alarm over the frequency of such fatalities, calling for immediate measures to address the situation.

The details of the mishap, including the vehicle involved, are yet to be confirmed by authorities. Forest officials have reached the spot to investigate and assess the circumstances surrounding the tiger’s death.

Maharashtra, which is home to significant tiger habitats like Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve and Umred-Karhandla Wildlife Sanctuary, has been witnessing a worrying trend of tiger deaths due to poaching, territorial conflicts, and road accidents. Experts are urging stricter enforcement of speed limits and installation of wildlife corridors to prevent such accidents in tiger-sensitive zones.
