Nagpur: With temperatures soaring across Vidarbha since the beginning of April, Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) has initiated large-scale maintenance and repair work of its electricity distribution network in Nagpur Circle to ensure uninterrupted power supply during the peak summer and the upcoming monsoon season.
Drawing from past experiences and forecasts by the Meteorological Department, MSEDCL anticipates extreme heat during April and May, followed by sudden storms and lightning strikes, which often disrupt the electricity supply. Since much of the electricity infrastructure is exposed to open weather, it remains vulnerable to climatic disturbances. These conditions can severely affect power supply and customer service. To minimize disruption and ensure a smooth electricity experience for consumers, MSEDCL has already geared up its systems.
As part of the preparations, special emphasis has been placed on inspecting and maintaining the power infrastructure. In Nagpur and Wardha districts, officials have begun trimming overgrown tree branches that hang over electric wires — a common cause of short circuits. Necessary permissions are being obtained wherever required.
Additionally, objects like kites, strings (manja), flags, festoons, flex boards, and plastic banners entangled in power lines pose a significant risk of power outages. MSEDCL has directed immediate removal of such obstructions. Other key activities include tightening loose guarding and spans between poles, adjusting sagging wires, and ensuring that all poles and connections remain structurally sound.
Proper upkeep of transformers at substations is also underway. Transformer oil levels are being checked, and silica gel in breathers is being replaced if found discolored. Considering the critical role of earthing in power safety, MSEDCL is reinforcing earthing connections at transformers, poles, distribution boxes, feeder pillars, and mini feeder pillars as part of its top-priority action plan.
MSEDCL has appealed to the public for their cooperation during this essential maintenance period. Acknowledging the inconvenience caused by potential disruptions amid rising temperatures, the utility emphasized that these preventive measures are vital for a reliable, uninterrupted, and safe electricity supply.
MSEDCL urged power consumers to remain patient and support the maintenance activities aimed at strengthening the overall power distribution system.
