Nagpur: Under the ongoing Operation Thunder, the Nagpur Police Unit No. 04 team has arrested a 32-year-old suspect and seized mephedrone (MD) worth ₹1 lakh during a decisive operation in the Wathoda Police Station limits. The action took place on February 11, 2026, between 7:10 PM and 8:40 PM near Raj Nagar, close to the Swaminarayan Temple.
A case has been registered under Sections 8(c), 22(c), and 29 of the NDPS Act. The arrested accused has been identified as Mohammad Niyaz Mohammad Samshul Ansari, a resident of Plot No. 72, Raj Nagar. His accomplice, 27-year-old Faizal Sheikh from Shiwankar Nagar near Masjid in the Nandanvan Police Station area, is currently absconding.
During routine patrolling, the police noticed the suspects acting suspiciously. As the officers approached them, the duo attempted to flee. Police chased and detained Mohammad Niyaz, and upon searching him in the presence of panch witnesses, recovered 10 grams of MD mephedrone powder valued at ₹1,00,000 along with a Vivo Y300 Plus smartphone worth ₹20,000, bringing the total seizure to ₹1,20,000. A detailed panchanama was conducted on the spot.
The accused has been handed over to Wathoda Police Station for further investigation.
Meanwhile, efforts are underway to track down absconding suspect Faizal Sheikh as Nagpur Police continue to intensify anti-narcotics operations under Operation Thunder.
