Nagpur: The Unit 5 of Crime Branch detained a minor in conflict with the law after he was found carrying a dangerous weapon in the Kapil Nagar area. Between 12:28 PM and 3:30 PM on February 12, 2026, the unit was patrolling near Angulimal Nagar, behind the Juvenile Correction Home, when officers noticed a suspicious minor.
Upon seeing the police, the boy attempted to flee, but officers chased and apprehended him. A search conducted in the presence of panch witnesses revealed a large iron knife concealed inside his pants, valued at around ₹1,000. When interrogated further, the minor confessed to breaking into a paan stall at Kapil Nagar Chowk a week earlier. Police records confirmed the registration of a non-cognizable offence regarding the incident.
In total, the police seized a large knife and ₹100 in cash, amounting to a recovery of ₹1,100. As the minor was found possessing a weapon with the intention of committing a cognizable offence and violating prohibitory orders, a case was registered under Sections 4 and 25 of the Arms Act, along with Section 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act, at Kapil Nagar Police Station. The minor, along with the seized items, has been handed over to Kapil Nagar Police for further action.
The operation was carried out under the supervision of Additional Commissioner of Police (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and Assistant Commissioner of Police (Crime Branch) Abhijeet Patil. Further investigation is underway.
