Nagpur: The southwest monsoon has made its initial entry into Vidarbha, touching isolated areas in Gadchiroli district, particularly Sironcha and Aheri, according to the Regional Meteorological Centre (RMC), Nagpur. However, the rest of the region, including most parts of Vidarbha, continues to await its full advancement.
Nagpur city recorded 23.6 mm of rainfall on Wednesday, followed by light showers in a few areas on Thursday. Despite the rain, the daytime temperature rose by 1.9°C, reaching 37.8°C, as the region experiences the mild phase of Nautapa.
Dr Praveen Kumar, a scientist at RMC, stated that while monsoon activity has begun in some parts of Gadchiroli, broader favourable conditions for its progression across Vidarbha will require a few more days. “Rainfall intensity will remain low over the next four to five days. Any precipitation during this period is likely to be due to localised weather activity,” he said.
He also cautioned residents about rising humidity levels, which could lead to increased discomfort in the coming days.
Dr Kumar advised farmers to hold off on sowing operations until official agricultural advisories are issued, as the monsoon has yet to stabilize across the region.
