Nagpur: Under the visionary leadership of Commissioner of Police Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal, the Nagpur City Police successfully conducted a citywide ‘Complaint Redressal Day’ on Saturday, May 31, between 11 am and 1 pm. The initiative aimed to directly engage with complainants, resolve pending issues at the grassroots level, and restore citizens’ faith in their local police stations.
In accordance with directives from the Director General of Police (Mumbai), this redressal drive focused on ensuring timely justice and empathetic hearing of public grievances. Police officers across Nagpur were sensitized to take responsibility and actively participate in addressing complaints lodged at their respective stations.
The initiative was prompted by a rising trend of citizens bypassing local police stations to approach the Commissioner’s office directly — a matter of concern for the administration. To reverse this trend and rebuild trust in local policing, the Commissioner decided to implement redressal sessions directly at all 33 police stations.
Key Highlights:
- 419 complainants personally visited their police stations to present their concerns.
- A total of 496 complaints were addressed and resolved.
- The highest number of grievances (149) was resolved in Zone 5, followed by Zone 3 (114), Zone 2 (89), Zone 1 (75), and Zone 4 (69).
Legal Action Summary:
- 12 non-cognizable offences were registered.
- 1 preventive action was taken.
- 9 FIRs are in the proposal stage and under consideration.
- 6 complaints had FIRs already registered earlier.
- 4 new FIRs were lodged on the day itself.
At Dahntoli Police Station, local corporators and activists were invited for a dialogue to understand area-specific issues. In Beltarodi Police Station, a dedicated Complaint Redressal Board has been installed, offering citizens an opportunity to meet the Station House Officer every Saturday.
Certain complaints undergoing legal scrutiny were addressed through legal counseling and guidance, providing reassurance and clarity to the complainants. Observers noted that citizens appreciated being heard — a visible sign of renewed public trust in the police.
Dr. Ravinder Kumar Singal announced that ‘Complaint Redressal Day’ will now be observed every Saturday from 11 am to 1 pm across all police stations. To ensure its effectiveness, monitoring officers at the Assistant and Additional Commissioner levels will oversee the weekly sessions.
This initiative has not only resolved long-pending issues but also built a bridge of trust and communication between the police and the public. The overarching message was clear — “Your concerns are being heard” — reinforcing the Nagpur Police’s commitment to transparent and responsive governance.
