Two Externed Criminals Apprehended by Crime Branch and Nandanvan Police in Separate Operations in Nagpur

Nagpur: In a crackdown on externed criminals flouting police orders, the Nagpur Police apprehended two individuals in separate operations conducted by the Crime Branch Unit 1 and Nandanvan Police Station.


On May 30, at around 8:15 pm, a team from Crime Branch Unit 1 was patrolling the Rana Pratap Nagar area in search of criminals when they received a tip-off about an externed criminal roaming near the Texas Shop at Mate Chowk, close to Galaxy Apartment. Acting on the information, the team rushed to the location and spotted a suspicious individual who attempted to flee upon seeing the police. He was swiftly chased and apprehended.


The accused was identified as Sahil Rajesh Hatibend, 22, a resident of Subhash Nagar, Kamgar Colony, Rana Pratap Nagar, Nagpur. Upon verifying his record, it was found that he had been externed from Nagpur city and rural areas for two years under the order No. 11/2024 dated November 12, 2024, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 1. As Sahil was found within prohibited limits without any official permission and with the intent to commit a crime, he was booked under Section 142 of the Maharashtra Police Act. He has been handed over to Rana Pratap Nagar Police for further investigation.


This operation was carried out under the guidance of Commissioner of Police Ravinder Kumar Singal, Joint CP N.D. Reddy, Additional CP (Crime) Vasant Pardeshi, DCP (Detection) Rahul Makanikar, and ACP (Crime) Abhijeet Patil. The team included PI Amol Deshmukh, API Sachin Bhonde, and other personnel.


In a separate operation, between 11:50 pm on May 29 and 12:30 am on May 30, Nandanvan Police received a tip-off about an externed individual present in the Shivnagar Nagar slum area. A police team reached the spot, where the suspect attempted to escape under the cover of darkness but was captured after a brief chase.


He was identified as Sheikh Shahurukh Sheikh Mehmood, 27, a resident of Shivnagar Nagar Slum, Nandanvan, Nagpur. During his frisking, police recovered a steel knife worth approximately ₹350. Upon checking his background, it was revealed that he had been externed from Nagpur city and rural areas for one year as per order No. 12/2024 dated November 15, 2024, issued by the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Zone 4. Since he was found within police limits without permission and in possession of a weapon, intending to commit a crime, a case was registered under Sections 4/25 of the Indian Arms Act, and Sections 142 and 135 of the Maharashtra Police Act.


This operation was executed under the supervision of DCP (Zone 4) Rashmita Rao and ACP (Sakkardara Division) Narendra Hiware, with PI Vinayak Koli, API Pravin Raut, and their team carrying out the arrest.


Both cases are currently under investigation.
