Nagpur: A shocking kidnapping conspiracy was foiled in Maharashtra’s second capital as Sitabuldi police averted an abduction attempt of Amravati-based trader Mahavir Kothari in Ramdaspeth here on Friday, April 18. The incident occurred behind the Jain Temple in the locality and was linked to a financial dispute.
According to preliminary information, Kothari had borrowed Rs 1 lakh from the prime accused, Salman Khan. Investigations have revealed that Khan, along with his associate Mazhar Pathan, conspired to kidnap Kothari due to the unpaid debt.
Acting swiftly on a tip-off, Deputy Commissioner of Police Rahul Madane deployed a special team that managed to apprehend Salman Khan from the Wadi area. However, Azhar Pathan and their female accomplice, identified as Pinky, are currently absconding, and a manhunt has been launched to trace them.
Sources revealed that Mahavir Kothari had also borrowed money from multiple individuals in Amravati, making the case even more complex and financially motivated.
Sitabuldi Police have registered a case under relevant sections of the BNS for kidnapping. The investigation is underway under the supervision of senior police officials, with action being taken based on technical evidence. Efforts are ongoing to apprehend the remaining accused, Mazhar Pathan and Pinky.
